for everyone

It was on this date in 2005 that I started with Half Price Books at the Tukwilla, WA location. I worked at that location for almost a year before transferring to the Tacoma, WA store, where I've been ever since.  See, my wife worked at the Tacoma store and we didn't want to cause any waves by having a husband and wife working at the same store, so I opted to commute to the next closest store.  When my wife moved on to her present job, I transferred closer to home.

The reasons were multiple in why I want to leave the comfortable surroundings of Tukwilla, though it was nice being next door to a Toys R Us.  The first being I wanted to work closer to home.  I'd usually have to leave for work an hour before my shifts to make sure I got there on time and the Friday commute home was always a pain in the ass.  The second being that the store manager at the time of my transfer had some issues that made working at that store less pleasant than when I started.  So, I wanted to get out of there before I learned to hate the job I loved so much.

So now, three years later, I'm still with the company.  Except for one other job, this is the longest I've ever been working for any particular place.  It's the best retail work I've ever done, though it's not without it's problems.  It doesn't seem like it's been three years.  Here's to another three and maybe a couple more promotions too.

for everyone

Half Price Books sent me and another guy from our store to help open a new HPB near Chicago. Thursday of that week, they took us into the city for pictures, souveniers, and fond memories.
